uhhh... yeah its alright.... It is a solid thriller

RATING
6.9/10
The Housemaid

Quick take

Yeah, it’s good! Me and my girlfriend went to see it and we both enjoyed it. It definitely wasn’t a total waste of time. Would I watch it again? Probably not, but it was definitely worth a watch once.

The good

  • Brandon Sklenar (Andy) did a fantastic job; he was great throughout.
  • Amanda Seyfried (Nina) really stole the show. She set the tone and made the movie feel quite eerie at times.
  • The acting overall was solid and the story was very easy to follow without requiring a massive amount of attention.

The meh

  • Michele Morrone (Enzo) felt completely wasted. He barely had anything to do with the story poor guy, though I’m sure the paycheck was lovely and he didnt have to do too much work
  • The story was a bit too simple and felt predictable at times. It’s one of those films you see once and then you’re done with it.

Verdict

6.9/10. Not bad at all, but not going to be one of my favorites. It’s a solid, average thriller.

Me and my girlfriend really enjoyed this one; it was a fun watch. However, it felt a bit too simple in the end. Michele Morrone (Enzo), bless him, literally had nothing to do with the plot. The film hypes him up as if he’s going to be the savior, but then he just gets fired and we never see him again. The most shocking part was the sex scenes!!! it’s probably one of the most intimate and graphic scenes I’ve seen in a long time tbh... Usually, I hate pointless sex scenes, but I think they did this well. There was a nice build-up where you were actually rooting for them to finally do it. As for the plot twist, it was okay, but pretty predictable once Nina left and everything seemed perfect, it then became quite obvious who the problem was. It didn't ruin the film, but it definitely kept it in "average thriller" territory. My main complaint is the ending. I loved the idea of the women sticking together and helping each other, but making Millie (Sydney Sweeney) out to be some sort of superhero who travels from one abusive house to the next didn't fit her character at all. It should have just ended with them parting ways. Anyway, it's a decent film and I didn't feel like I wasted my money even though you basically need a second mortgage to go to the cinema these days! (Side note: Vue hotdogs are absolutely rubbish).
